Who is this programme for?

The Postgraduate Certificate in Digital and Collaborative Learning is an innovative Programme designed for teachers and educators at all levels to be equipped to bring contemporary skills and tools into the classroom.

How long does this programme take to complete?

This programme is delivered part-time, over 32 weeks (or full-time as part of the Master of Contemporary Education in 20 weeks). As part of this certificate, you will be required to dedicate the following time: Weekly, online, facilitated sessions (90 minutes). Plus additional preparation and collaboration work (roughly 3-5 hours per week). Weekly applied, hands-on learning in your classroom, integrating new ideas, tools and concepts and reflecting on your practice. 2 x sets of block days in week 7 and week 19, delivered in-person or online. Note: The learning outcomes are the same whether you attend online or in-person, however those who choose to join us in-person will have the chance to connect in person with others on the programme, and academyEX team.

Can I do this course with colleagues?

Absolutely. We’ve had loads of students do the course alongside family members, friends and colleagues. There are also opportunities to work collaboratively on assessments during the programme and work together on a project of interest. Learning is always better together!

What does orientation look like?

In the lead-up to the start of each intake, fully enrolled students will receive onboarding emails from the team, as well as access to platforms that will be used during your study. An orientation session is held at the beginning of each intake, and all students are expected to attend in person at academyEX HQ in Auckland. International students learning onshore with us will also be required to attend a separate orientation session. Details will be provided during the application process.

I am interested in digital and collaborative teaching and learning, do you have any other study options in this space?

Yes, you can also study the Digital and Collaborative Teaching and Learning micro-credential . And if you want to take your learning to another level – consider a Master’s degree. Our contemporary, practical Master of Contemporary Education will equip you with the skills and pedagogy you need to enact change in your education environment. Part-time and full-time options are available.

When are the next intakes?

There are two intakes of this Postgraduate Certificate per year, starting in March and August.

When do applications close?

Applications close one week before the start date of the intake you are applying for Applications may be accepted on a case-by-case basis after the application close date at the discretion of academyEX. If applications are closed and you would like to apply, please contact us.

Can I study and work full-time at the same time?

Studying full-time is a significant commitment (35 - 40 hours per week) and we do not recommend working full-time whilst studying full-time. Please contact us if you have specific circumstances that you would like to discuss.

What are the entry requirements?

To be eligible to study on the Programme, applicants must meet the admission criteria. The high-level entry criteria as approved by NZQA are as follows: Have a Bachelor’s Degree (or level 7 Graduate Diploma) in education or similar discipline; OR Provide documentary evidence of outcomes in an education work environment to demonstrate an ability to perform in the Programme and commit to achieving its outcomes. Evidence of English language proficiency is also required for international students.

The domestic tuition fee for the Programme is NZD$3485.00 (including GST). The international tuition fee, if you are studying in New Zealand, is NZD$16599.00. A 15% Goods and Services tax applicable when studying in New Zealand is included in this fee.

Are there any discounts or scholarships available?

academyEX offers a range of Scholarships to support people to study and help to minimise barriers to learning. You can apply for an academyEX Scholarship for the Post-graduate Certificate. Early Bird Discount: There is also an Early Bird discount of 10% off the course fees for domestic students who apply 4 weeks before the start date of an intake, and 8 weeks before the start of an intake for international students. The discount will be applied to your invoice automatically through the enrolment process. Please note: Early Bird Discount and Scholarships cannot both be applied. If you receive a scholarship, the remaining amount payable will not be discounted with the early bird rate. What you’ll learn

We know teachers lack time, the DCL postgraduate is designed to be studied WHILE you are practising. Many of our assessments are collaborative (it's an assessment, not a test!) and learning assessment relates to your own practice and reflections as an educator.

This flexible Level 8 NZQA accredited (60 Credits) Postgraduate offers NZQA-accredited professional development in various contemporary educational issues and technologies. This includes leading change, cultural intelligence, design thinking, AI literacy, and research-informed innovation in the classroom.

You can study fully online or combine online learning with selected in-person sessions in Auckland. Both study modes provide the same learning and outcomes.

Delve into research and innovation. Develop evidence based, culturally intelligent approaches to lead the implementation of digital and collaborative learning initiatives in your practice.

Move into Masters

Put your innovation into practice or further your knowledge starting with Part 2 of our Master of Contemporary Education.
